Gnomes

Gnomes are not available as player characters except in rare cases.
Gnomes, in this world, are an extremely difficult character race to play. Gnomes are extremely law-abiding; the entire society is ruled by THE LAW. Gnomes believe the creator spoke the law and that brought gnomes into being (whose purpose is to obey the law). They are very serious and quite devoted to their individual princedoms. They also have a very high degree of group identity as opposed to an individual identity. The gnome prince of a princedom has complete control over his subjects but is bound by the Law.
Gnomes do not have friends outside of their own species. No one is even sure if gnomes have a sense of humour - at least not one understood by other species. They have a very unbending view of obligation or debt. Gnomes do not accept gifts unless it is prefaced by, "Without obligation". A gnome never forgets a debt or obligation and if he is unable to discharge the debt, then gnomes of his princedom will honour his debt.
Gnomes are very deadly fighters with unswerving discipline. They have the earth skills and cleric earth magic like dwarves.
Gnomes who are found outside of their princedoms are almost always there on the orders of their prince or on the princedom's business (which includes merchants). The only exception are kteknik - outcast gnomes. Kteknik have been banished from the princedom and stripped of their citizenship and, thus, most of their identity/purpose. A kteknik is usually extremely withdrawn and trying to avoid notice. Ktekniks are regarded as worse than worthless by gnomes. Other peoples regard ktekniks as either criminals (they got thrown out for a reason) or as gnomes on some deep and dark mission for their prince. Thus, the only chance for a kteknik is to be an associate of known criminals (notice "associate", not "friend"). In extremely rare cases, a kteknik's life may be saved by an outsider, the kteknik takes the obligation seriously and regards that person as the kteknik's master and the kteknik as his slave.
Thus, a gnome character is strongly discouraged due to their place in the world....
There are two small gnome trade embassies in Bannerlith and Danalith with a few wandering gnome merchants. Otherwise, the nearest gnome presence to Prealith is west of the Ladysforest's western boundary.
