History - The Gnomes' Version
The only people who are more frustrating than elves are gnomes. Meticulous note takers who write everything down in a factual and non-biased fashion; they would be the ultimate historical source. However, they will NOT share any of their sources or grant access.
After one particularly frustrating negotiation, with a substantial amount of 'without obligation' alcoholic refreshment, I did ask what would be the coin or value I would have to pay to gain access. The answer was "Hktierbtennr" would allow me to ask questions of a gnomish record keeper and "Ptrikmert" would give me unlimited direct access to the gnomish records. Even then, the gnomish group I was negotiating with seemed regretful they had given that much away - but they stand by this deal and I have the written agreement. I am not sure how much good it will do. I have never heard of either of these gnomish words before and neither have any of my colleagues. Asking a gnome is an ... unwise idea. The words are both gnomish proper nouns. They seem to be in an older form of gnomish and my educated guess is they do not refer to a person/gnome nor to a living thing. The author would be deeply indebted to you if you can find either of these things? places? events?...
I must be honest, I had limited hope in this avenue being useful to your present commission. I have never heard of a gnomish princedom in the area east from the Ladysforest's western boundaries, let alone in Prealith. There are small gnomish trade embassies in Bannerlith and Danalith and usually a few wandering gnomish traders. Other than trade, Prealith seems to be of little interest to gnomes.
