The History of Darwarth the Sage
Greetings scholars!
Long have I delved into the histories of the peoples of the Eight Kingdoms and their neighbours. For this present commission, I will give you a broad story of these realms but will concentrate on the history of the realm of Prealith. For further details on the other realms, I refer you to "Darwarth's Collected Histories of the Realms". I would be willing to part with a copy for a reasonable gratuity. There are other histories, but not as accurate nor as appropriate for a scholar of discerning tastes, such as yourself.
This history will be presented to you from the views of the different peoples who populate the realm. As a learned person, you are aware that different groups view history in different ways and have different 'tools' or information available. An elf who has lived thousands of years will have personal experience of events that belong in the 'forgotten past or legend era' part of human history. However, that same elf will have a broader view of history that is determined not only by experience and memory but also interpretation (both personal and racial). For all the peoples, I have ranged far and wide and collected the most accepted story of the past from the viewpoint of one people at a time - the elves - both of the Ladyforest and the Wilds (no mean feat that latter accomplishment); the distilled writings and tales of the folk of the Dwarfmounts; information bartered at great cost from the Gnome Princedoms; and the story of the world from the civilized humans of Prealith (attempts to glean information from the wild tribes of forest and peaks were not received well....).
You will note that the histories vary widely in content and even contradict each other. I will remind you that was part of your instructions for this commission; you wished to know the viewpoints and histories according to the different groups. Again, I offer instead the comprehensive history where I will weigh, judge, and interpret all of these writings into "The Grand History of Prealith and the Surrounding Realms". I should have it finished in 2 or 3 years time and would be willing to offer it at a reduced rate.
