Wizards

Wizards are powerful and feared forces in the world. It does not help their reputation that they are often confused with blood mages. In addition, there are wizards who abuse their powers to oppress the people around them and for their own gain. There are, no doubt, organizations or understandings between these wizards; not surprisingly, such organizations are kept from public knowledge as much as possible.
As for reputable and known wizards' organizations, there are two - the School of Tenille and the Royal Society of the Circle (RSC). The RSC is an organization obviously tied to the Sea Prince. In return for royal patronage and protection, the RSC enforces a code of conduct for wizards in Prealith (and even beyond) and uses its powers to support the Sea Prince and Prealith. It is believed that all members of the RSC are also members of the School of Tenille.
The link between the two groups would not be surprising. The School of Tenille is based in Sanctuary with branches in Bannerlith and Danalith. The Code of Conduct has its origins in Sanctuary. The School is best known for its tireless search for lost arcane lore and for possible students. The School is, no surprise, closely tied to the clerics of Tenille. Originally, the School was solely based in the town of Sanctuary. As the town has become increasingly tied to trade and industry, more and more of the instruction has shifted to nearby villages. The administration, some specialist wizards, and most of the Traditionalists remain in Sanctuary. However, the disruption caused by Sanctuary's paper mills makes concentration problematic at times... hence the dispersal of instruction. As suggested, the School is split between the Traditionalists and the rest of the School. Traditionalists believe the School and Sanctuary should continue the path of slow and careful expansion with an emphasis on magic and defense. An increasing number of wizards take a very different viewpoint - one shared by a majority of citizens outside of the School. They believe Sanctuary should expand rapidly in economy, size and power. They point to the difficulty in defending Sanctuary's existing borders and also the substantial resources just outside Sanctuary's present borders. On the other hand, Traditionalists point to history to argue an expanded Sanctuary was largely destroyed in the past...
As for the Code of Conduct, it essentially comes down to a few points. First, magic users are not to abuse their powers. This broad area is especially concerned with wizards using magic to take advantage of their non-magical neighbours. Second, wizards have an obligation to police wizards who violate this Code. Finally, the Code advocates for the expansion of both knowledge and numbers of wizards. These wizards are to work for the common good. It is a rather idealistic document; but the emphasis is on ensuring a peaceful and beneficial coexistence with the rest of the community and to lessen fear and distrust towards magic users.
