Elves
![]() This page presents common knowledge about elves. It would be available to knowledgeable non-elves.
Only elvish player characters receive more information about the elvish race. Elves believe they were created before the other races. Elves believe the Singer (God) sung everything into existence with themselves as the lesser singers. Elves call themselves "Sinyi", the Sung. Elves strive to make things more beautiful - both surface and inner beauty. Elves have an innate love of harmony and loath war; but they can be easily offended and hold grudges. Elves are able to sense and communicate with the consciousness/spirit of all living things leading them to be able to heal it. This is called 'taig sense' and can refer to individual living things or entire biomes (see below). Elves tend to live and stay within the Ladysforest elvenhome. It is reported by travelers there is a Kingsforest elvenhome far to the west. An elvenhome is impossible for non-elves to safely enter without elvish guidance or powerful magic. How they are created or managed the elves will not say. Almost all elves encountered will be from the Ladysforest elvenhome. Adventurers may encounter "Wild Elves" (elves who do not live nor accept the authority of the Ladysforest and the Lady). However, non-elf characters are unable to tell the difference between the two groups. Ladysforest elves do not acknowledge the existence of "Wild Elves" and "Wild Elves" do not bother to identify themselves as a different group. Elves do not like to acknowledge the existence of the iynisin (dark elves or unsingers). These are evil and dangerous creatures who are corrupted elves who long fell under the sway of dark gods when the elves split over the singing of the First Kuakgan to the First Tree (see elvish history). Elves have impressive magic gifts/abilities, especially within the Ladysforest. Elves tend to be somewhat arrogant. They believe their long lives grant them wisdom that 'younger races' lack and should take heed of following. Individual elves vary in this level of arrogance and how they view other races. Dwarves and gnomes have their own areas of concern so elves tend to be somewhat indifferent to them. Humans, however, get much more attention. Humans, due to their short life spans and nature, are believed to be inferior; however, that is be coupled with attitudes ranging from humans as a delightful short interlude (where half-elves come from) through humans as a danger to the entire world that needs to be controlled or at least avoided. In Lyonya, elves emphasize their role as protectors of the realm and have stringent rules on human use of natural resources. As can be imagined, human reaction varies quite widely to these conditions. |
