The Ice People

Overview: "Ice People" is a misnomer. It is the name the Sea Wolves gave to this group - they are found north of the Sea Wolves and "Ice People" is the closest the Sea Wolves could come to pronouncing the label these people gave themselves (Which actually translates as 'The People of the Long Houses). Another label might be 'The People of the Dark, Cold Forests'.
Player Characters: Ice People characters can be any class but wizard, High Bard, paladin, or knight. Ice People are the premier human ranger class and most Ice People encountered will be that class. Ice People rangers will have advanced survival skills, two handed fighting, wilderness trap skills, and know tricks for travelling under any conditions.
Appearance: Pale skin that tans easily with brown hair. Shorter than average and somewhat stocky build. Eyes are usually green or grey. The label "Ice People" has also stuck as they always seem unnaturally still and quiet.
Locations: The Ice People conquered Dzordanya from the Sea Wolves. They live in villages of communal long houses and make their living from hunting, trapping, fishing, and some farming/herding. Ice People villages were established along Prealith's coast in exchange for service as scouts and rangers for Prealith's royal forces. Both male and female rangers serve in these forces.
Known Characteristics: Ice People do not use shields and only light armour. Ice People do not believe in codes of honour nor duels or any other such foolishness as a 'fair fight'. Ice People believe in carrying the fight to the enemy (their villages only have rough palisades to keep the animals in at night). Fighting philosophy - kill or disable the enemy with a trap first; if you can't, ambush them with arrows; if you have to, then lash out with both melee weapons at once and kill them before they can touch you. Retreat, there's always another ambush site. Ice People trace their ancestry through their mother's line. Women own the longhouses and the fields; men own the herds and the fishing boats/canoes.
Rumoured Characteristics: Some Ice People clerics are also wizards. They do not venture outside of Ice People territory. Ice People have an uneasy truce with the faerie that is frequently violated by the faerie if they think they can get away with it. It is also rumoured that the Ruling Council of Dzordanya is negotiating a defense treaty with Prealith to prevent Paragunese expansion and to combat piracy. The strangest rumour is the Ice People belief their first colony in these lands pre-dates all people - including elves. This colony brought the First Tree to these lands - the tree that produced all the other trees. Once the forest had time to grow and spread, it was time for the other Ice People to come. Less charitable groups claim the Ice People legend is there to justify their take over of Dzordanya....
